Thursday 10 May, 2018 | Term 2, Week 2

Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome back to Term 2! It was delightful to walk into the classrooms ~ right from day one ~ and see the high level of student engagement and also see the teachers focused on their important work of teaching and supporting the students in their work of learning and making progress. It is good to be back together again!

What a brilliant day it was on Sunday celebrating all that is good about being in this community! The weather was glorious for our special fundraising event and I have no doubt that substantial funds were raised for the schools and the Parish. The St Madeleine’s community is a very resourceful and very generous bunch of people and this was certainly demonstrated last weekend. Thank you one and all!

Towards the end of last term our student attendance level dropped below 90%. I appreciate that some families took holidays last term to visit relatives overseas, but what I am now wanting to focus on is the amount of partial absences...

Mk 16:15-20

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark.

The Lord Jesus was taken into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God.

Jesus showed himself to the Eleven and said to them, ‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation. He who believes and is baptised is saved; he who does not believe will be condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they will cast out devils; they will have the gift of tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they will lay their hands on the sick, who will recover.’

And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven: there at the right hand of God he took his place, while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the signs that accompanied it.

Mary was the first person to take the ‘way’ to enter the Kingdom of God that Christ opened; a way that is accessible to the humble, to all who trust in the word of God and endeavour to put it into practice. (Pope Benedict XVI)
This weekend we celebrate Mother’s Day and look towards all those who inspire us to be motherly.

Loving God,
As a mother gives life and nourishment to her children
So you watch over your Church
Bless all mothers
That they may be strengthened as Christian mothers
Let the example of their faith and love shine forth
Grant that we, their sons and daughters
May honour them always
With a spirit of profound respect
Grant this through Christ our Lord.

Please refer to the parish bulletin or parish website for Mass times - http://stmadeleine.org.au/. Fr Vince and all parishioners would love to see you and your family there.

Your example, even more than your words, will be an eloquent lesson to the world.

Bianka Jakovljevic (4B) performed brilliantly on Sunday 6 May in the Under Nines Contemporary Solo at the Northern Beaches Eisteddfod. She sang Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara, and received a mark of 90 and a Highly Commended award!
Bianka will also be performing in the 9 Years and Under Music Theatre Solo on Sunday May 20, and the 11 Years and Under Junior Championship Solo on Sunday 3 June.

Best of luck Bianka!

A reminder that we have several children at St Madeleine’s who are at risk of suffering a severe allergic reaction (Anaphylactic Shock) if exposed to eggs, nuts, horse hair and other allergies. In order to help the school to manage allergies and to ensure that we provide our best duty of care, we would appreciate your co-operation in thinking about what food you send to school with your children.

Notice Period for Leaving St Madeleine’s

A term's notice (10 school weeks) in writing must be given to the principal before the removal of a student or a full term's fees will be payable. The notice can be given any time during term for the next term.  One exception is that notice in writing will be accepted at any time during Term 4 in relation to the following year’s enrolment, that is, the notice period of 10 school weeks will be waived in this circumstance.

The requirement for a terms notice (10 school weeks) is recognition by the family of the commitment to assist with funding of the School by having their child take a place that could have been offered to another family. Unless the student is present for the August census or the student is able to be replaced mid-year, which is unlikely, the loss of the student will most certainly result in the loss of significant government funding. Thus a term notice provides the school with an opportunity to replace the student within the next term.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Changing Schools

When a student under 17 years of age leaves school with an unknown destination the school has the responsibility to inform the Department of Education and Training of the name and last known contact details for the student concerned. Please contact the school office and provide details if you are changing schools.

Child Protection — Volunteer Helpers

It is a Diocesan requirement that parents who volunteer at the school e.g. Reading Groups, Canteen, Uniform Shop or Excursions must complete the CEO online Child Protection Module Building Child Safe Communities which needs to be completed every two years and is emailed to the school after completion.

You do not need to do the Working with Children Check at Service NSW.

School Fees statements will be posted to your mailing address this week. If you have not received a statement by 18 May, please contact the school office 9654 6751 to request a copy of your fee statement.

Please note that unless you have arrangement with the school or CEDP in writing then outstanding school fees are to be paid in full by Wed 6th June 2018. If you are unable to pay by this date, please contact the office to discuss your situation in confidence.

As stated in our Compliance section, the Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta has developed a Policy relating to the notice required from parents to terminate their child's enrolment in the schools of the Parramatta Diocese. In part this states that “ a term’s notice (10 weeks) in writing must be given to the Principal before the removal of a student or a full term’s fees will be paid. The notice can be given any time during the term for next term.

This means that unless the school receives a term’s notice, no pro-rata adjustment will be given for part term tuition. Notice in writing will be accepted at any time during Term 4 in relation to the follow year’s enrolment. In this circumstance the requirement for 10 weeks’ notice will be waived.
