IN THIS ISSUE:

Dear Parents and Friends,

The 2018 year has come to a close and what a busy, happy and productive year of learning is has been!

We have finished up with so many celebrations ~ The Thank You Liturgy and Assembly, The Christmas Concert, The Yr 6 Graduation, The Farewell Assembly and the End of School Year Mass. So many opportunities to celebrate and acknowledge and thank the many people who support the school in all we do.

I am privileged to belong to a learning community with such capable and committed staff who have the child at the centre of all we do. Our students, too, are outstanding in the way they embrace their learning and all the opportunities presented to them. The Christmas Concert last Tuesday evening was a perfect example of the way our students willingly participate with energy and enthusiasm in school events. For each rehearsal and on the concert night, they gave it their all.  They were magnificent!

Congratulations to our students who performed so beautifully at the Piano and Singing Recital on Monday night in the Saint Joseph’s Centre. Mr Philip was so proud of his students who demonstrated their musical skills to a very appreciative audience of family and friends.

Whilst we are farewelling Ms Limberger, Ms Matthews and Mr Gerecs this week, we will be welcoming two new colleagues to our community in 2019 ~ Mrs Kate Knight will be teaching Year 6 and Ms Miceli will be teaching Year 4. I have included the staff list and placements in this newsletter.

This year we appreciated the opportunities to pray together and to celebrate all that is good about being in communion with each other here at St Madeleine’s. We are all on our own journey building God’s Kingdom here on earth at Kenthurst. We are indeed a very blessed community.

Thank you all very much for your support of the important work we do together. I wish everyone in our community a very safe, happy and holy Christmas and holiday season with your precious family and friends.

Go gently and enjoy this very special time!

Sunday 16 December 2018:

Third Sunday of Advent - Year C

Lk 3:10-18
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

What, then, must we do?

When all the people asked John, ‘What must we do?’ he answered, ‘If anyone has two tunics he must share with the man who has none, and the one with something to eat must do the same.’ There were tax collectors too who came for baptism, and these said to him, ‘Master, what must we do?’ He said to them, ‘Exact no more than your rate.’ Some soldiers asked him in their turn, ‘What about us? What must we do?’ He said to them, ‘No intimidation! No extortion! Be content with your pay!’

A feeling of expectancy had grown among the people, who were beginning to think that John might be the Christ, so John declared before them all, ‘I baptise you with water, but someone is coming, someone who is more powerful than I am, and I am not fit to undo the strap of his sandals; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing-fan is in his hand to clear his threshing-floor and to gather the wheat into his barn; but the chaff he will burn in a fire that will never go out.’ As well as this, there were many other things he said to exhort the people and to announce the Good News to them.

Sunday 23rd December 2018:

Fourth Sunday of Advent - Year C

Lk 1:39-45
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

Why should it happen that I am honoured with a visti from the mother of my Lord?

Mary set out and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah. She went into Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, ‘Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.’
THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD

Lk 2:1-14
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke

Today a saviour has been born for you

Caesar Augustus issued a decree for a census of the whole world to be taken. This census (the first) took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria, and everyone went to his own town to be registered. So Joseph set out from the town of Nazareth in Galilee and travelled up to Judaea, to the town of David called Bethlehem, since he was of David’s House and line, in order to be registered together with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.

While they were there the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to a son, her first-born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them at the inn. In the countryside close by there were shepherds who lived in the fields and took it in turns to watch their flocks during the night. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone round them. They were terrified, but the angel said, ‘Do not be afraid. Listen, I bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by the whole people. Today in the town of David a saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. And here is a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.’ And suddenly with the angel there was a great throng of the heavenly host, praising God and singing:

‘Glory to God in the highest heaven and peace to men who enjoy his favour.’
